The World Cup knockout stage is underway, with a total of 28 teams already eliminated from the title race.
The last to say goodbye were England and Portugal, this Saturday after defeats to France and Morocco, respectively. Below, you will see the teams eliminated from the 2022 World Cup.
Qatar – first phase (Group A)
Qatar was the first team to be eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. With defeats to Ecuador 2-0 and Senegal 3-1.
Canada – first round (Group F)
Canada was the second team eliminated from the Qatar World Cup after losing by 4 to 1 from Croatia in the second round of group F.
In their debut, the North American team had already been defeated 1-0 by Belgium.
Ecuador – first phase (Group A)
Third eliminated in the first phase of the World Cup, Ecuador even had good moments, such as the victory in the debut against the Qatari team, but lost the direct confrontation against Senegal in the last round of Group A and finished in third place.
Wales – first round (Group B)
Wales arrived at the last round of the group stage with a remote chance of qualifying for the round of 16. They lost 3-0 to England and ended the World Cup in Qatar at the bottom of Group B, with just one point won.
Iran – first round (Group B)
The Iranian national team was defeated by the United States 1-0 in the last round of the group stage. With the result, Iran was in third place in Group B, behind England and the United States.

Mexico – first phase (Group C)
Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 at Lusail Stadium. The result was insufficient, and the Mexican team is eliminated from the Qatar World Cup.
Saudi Arabia – first round (Group C)
Saudi Arabia only depended on itself in the last round to qualify, but wasted the opportunity to reach the knockout stages for the second time in its history by losing 2-1 to Mexico.
Denmark – first round (Group D)
Denmark disappointed and finished with just one point from nine matches. The cherry on the cake was the defeat to Australia in the last round. A victory would have already qualified the 'Dinamáquina'.
Tunisia – first round (Group D)
Third-placed in Group D, Tunisia comes out of the World Cup on merit after beating France 1-0 in the last round. But Australia's victory over Denmark knocked Tunisia out of the round of 16.
Belgium – first round (Group F)
Considered the big favorite to lead Group F, the Belgian team disappointed, drawing with Croatia and losing to Morocco, being eliminated with four points won.
Germany – first round (Group E)
Germany has once again been eliminated in the group stage of the Qatar World Cup. The German team beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the last round, but the result was not enough to advance. They finished third in Group E, behind Japan and Spain.
Costa Rica – first phase (Group E)
Costa Rica fought hard but were unable to avoid elimination in the group stage of the Qatar World Cup. The team leaves the World Cup as the last team in Group E, with three points.
Ghana – first round (Group H)
With defeats to Uruguay and Portugal, the victory against South Korea was not enough for the Ghanaian team to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
Uruguay – first phase (Group H)
Two-time World Cup champions, the Uruguayan team disappointed in Group H, finishing in third place with four points.
Cameroon – first round (Group G)
Despite the victory against Brazil in the last round of Group G, the Cameroon team ended up being eliminated, with four points won.
Serbia – first round (Group G)
With defeats to Brazil and Switzerland, Serbia ended up being eliminated in Group G, with just one point won.
United States – Round of 16
The United States were eliminated by the Netherlands in the round of 16 of the World Cup. The Americans lost 3-1 and were eliminated from the competition in Qatar.
Australia – Round of 16
The Australians qualified for the knockout stages in second place in Group D, leaving behind the teams of Tunisia and Denmark. In the round of 16, the Australian team faced Argentina, scared their opponents, but ended up being eliminated from the Qatar Cup.
Poland – Round of 16
Poland could not resist the strength of France, the French were superior and defeated the Poles 3-1. In the group stage, Poland achieved one victory, one draw and suffered a defeat to Argentina.
Senegal – Round of 16
The Senegal team ended up not being able to resist England. The team was beaten 3-0 and said goodbye to the World Cup.
Japan – Round of 16
The Japanese team was eliminated on penalties (3x1) in the match against Croatia, after a 1-1 draw in regular time and extra time.
South Korea – Round of 16
South Korea was defeated by Brazil 4-1 in the round of 16, saying goodbye to the Qatar World Cup.
Spain – Round of 16
Spain said goodbye to the World Cup against Morocco on penalties (3-0). After the 0-0 draw in the match, Spain became the team with the most eliminations on penalties in the history of the World Cup, with 4 defeats.
Switzerland – Round of 16
The Swiss team was defeated by the Portuguese team in the round of 16, 6-1, and was eliminated from the World Cup.
Brazil – Quarterfinals
Brazil lost 4-2 on penalties to Croatia after a 1-1 draw and is out of the World Cup in Qatar. The national team opened the scoring with Neymar at the end of the first half of extra time, but Petkovic equalized in the second half, taking it to penalties. Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed their shots, while the Croatians made all of them and advanced to the semi-finals. The dream of winning the sixth title was over.
Netherlands – Quarter-finals
The Dutch team ended up being eliminated in the quarter-finals, losing to Argentina in a penalty shootout 4-3, after a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes.
Portugal – Quarter-finals
Portugal said goodbye to the title fight in the quarter-finals of the competition, with a narrow defeat to Morocco.
England – Quarter Finals
With a 2-1 defeat to France in the quarter-finals, England bowed out of the competition. Harry Kane had the chance to equalise in the closing stages, but missed a penalty.
The four teams that will continue to compete for the World Cup in Qatar have been defined: Argentina, Croatia, Morocco and France.
