How to tie a full English knot

Wear the tie around your neck, leaving the wide end over your right shoulder.

  • Then pull it around your neck, with the narrow end going down to the middle of your chest.
  • It should be facing outwards, with you holding the wide end in your right hand.

Cross the wide end over the narrow end near the collar.

  • Hold the narrow end in place with your left hand while you bring the wide end over the top.
  • Try to keep it where it overlaps the collar, keeping the knot tight. The tie here will look like a big X.

How to tie a tie

Tie a loop with the wide end inside the neck loop.

  • Pull it towards your head and pass it through the portion tied around your neck.
  • Next, pull the wide end back down over the neck loop to tighten one side of the knot, it should be on top as well as the outside.

Pass the wide end under the knot.

  • Take it from the left side of the chest and fold it behind the central knot.
  • Use your left hand to steady the wide end so it will now be upside down and on your left side.

Thread the wide end through the loop at the neck for a symmetrical knot.

  • Pass the wide end through the right side of the neck loop.
  • Move from top to bottom, pulling it down from the right side.
  • The knot near the neck should have two symmetrical cones on both sides.

Pull the wide end over the front of the knot.

  • Fold it from right to left over the side portion of the knot.
  • The tie should be well adjusted, avoiding wrinkles or creases in the knot.
  • Hold it in place with your left hand so it doesn't come loose.
