KHALIFA INTER. STADIUM, DOHA

The first stadium we bring here is the Khalifa International, the most famous and most beloved stadium in Qatar. Opened in 1976, the stadium underwent a profound and ultra-modern transformation for the World Cup.

Reopened in 2017, Khalifa has hosted the Asian Games, the Gulf Cup, the AFC Asian Cup and five matches at the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup, including the final between Liverpool and Flamengo.

AL BAYT STADIUM, AL KHOR

Located in the city of Al Khor north of Doha, Al Bayt Stadium promises to be one of the most beautiful stadiums in Qatar's World Cup. Its design is inspired by the bayt al sha'ar, traditional tents used by the nomadic people of Qatar and the Persian Gulf region. The design pays homage to Qatar's past while keeping an eye on the future.

With a capacity for 60,000 people, the stadium will be dismantled after the World Cup and its upper modular structure will be donated to countries with little sports infrastructure. This initiative aims to promote development through sports in poor areas.

AL JANOUB STADIUM, AL WAKRAH

The Al Janoub Stadium, inspired by the traditional pearl harvesting, was Qatar’s first major commercial activity before the discovery of oil. The Al Janoub Stadium is certainly one of the most beautiful football stadiums in the world. It is located in the port city of Al Wakrah.

The stadium was inaugurated in 2019 during the Emir Cup final, with the victory of Al Duhail from Doha. The design reveals organic and pearlescent shapes, a project by the award-winning architect Zaha Hadid who immersed herself in Qatari culture to design this pearl of the Qatar World Cup.

Football and its curiosities

AHMAD BIN ALI STADIUM, AL RAYYAN

The former Al Rayyan Stadium will be replaced by the state-of-the-art Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium for the Qatar World Cup. Located in Al Rayyan, neighboring Doha and a short distance from Khalifa International, the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium sits on the edge of the Qatari desert.

For this reason, it will be one of the most sustainable stadiums of the World Cup, where the preservation of nature has been a priority. With a capacity of up to 40 thousand people, the stadium will be reduced after the World Cup and the upper modular structure will be donated to poor countries without sports infrastructure. After the end of the World Cup, the stadium will continue to be the home of Al Rayyan.

LUSAIL STADIUM, LUSAIL CITY

Finally, in the absence of another host city, Qatar went ahead and built a city from scratch. Lusail City did not exist until a few years ago and will be one of the main cities of the Qatar World Cup and will house the Lusail Stadium. Designed to hold up to 80 thousand fans, it will be the largest stadium of the World Cup. With a modern and bold design, the Lusail Stadium exudes artistic and architectural references from the Arab world.

After the competitions are over, the Qatar World Cup local committee plans to remove and donate most of the stadium’s 80,000 seats to sports projects in developing countries around the world. Lusail Stadium will host the grand final of the Qatar World Cup.
